Routes Into and Out of Washington, DC
The District has no counties, so we plan DC moves based on the truck’s origin or destination.
Between DC and Northern Virginia
I-66 enters the District from Arlington on the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge, and US 50 shares the crossing. In Arlington, that stretch of I-66 is part of the tolled Inside the Beltway Express Lanes. On the DC side, a spur called the E Street Expressway leads into Foggy Bottom. Our Virginia page lists every county and city we serve on that side of the Potomac, including our home base in Lorton. Arlington coverage includes Fort Myer, just across the river from the District.
Between DC and Montgomery County
Wisconsin Avenue leaves Northwest DC and becomes MD 355, which continues as Rockville Pike through Bethesda toward Rockville. I-270 starts at the Capital Beltway north of Bethesda and runs to Frederick. Both roads connect Northwest DC with the Montgomery County towns on our map, from Chevy Chase and Bethesda to Gaithersburg and Germantown. Takoma Park and Silver Spring also sit just across the line on the Maryland side.
Between DC and Prince George’s County
MD 4 enters the District as Pennsylvania Avenue after it intersects the Capital Beltway. Heading out, the same road leads to Upper Marlboro and on into Calvert County. Prince George’s towns on our map such as Capitol Heights, District Heights, and Mount Rainier sit close to the DC line, so many of these moves are short in miles but still cross into Maryland.
Moves Within the District
Moves inside DC usually come down to the building and the block. Rowhouses can mean narrow stairs and tight turns, and condo and apartment buildings often set their own elevator reservations and loading dock hours. Ask your building manager for those rules in writing and share them with the estimator so the permit window, sign posting, and building reservation line up. If the building only allows moves on certain days or hours, book the parking permit for that same window. Moving out of one building and into another on the same day means two sets of rules, so collect both before you pick a date.
